The Clover Blossom School
17760 St. Croix Trail
Taylors Falls, MN

When you visit the Clover Blossom School you step back in time to the days of the rural one-room schoolhouse. This school was built in either 1897 or 1901 and replaced the original building that existed in 1886. The Clover Blossom schools sat on the north side of Furuby Road, west of Redwing Avenue in Shafter Township, section #17.

The students attended this school through the 1934-1935 school year. From 1940 to 2001 it served as the Shafer Township Hall. In December 2001 the building was donated to the Chisago County Historical Society and it was moved to its permanent site on the Almelund Threshing Company showgrounds

The original wood burning heater, tin type ceiling, oak-slat flooring, slate chalk boards, student desks, bookshelves, and the school-master desk recreate the atmosphere from the late 19th century. The school bell which was used to call students to class each day continues to hang in the loft and is still operational.

The show grounds is also home to the historic 1876 Chisago County Courthouse. It was moved off its original site in Center City, MN to make room for the new County Government Center in 1990. The historic courthouse now sits adjacent to the Clover Blossom School.

The expanding threshing grounds hosts a small village that has been recreated on this site. Visit the old Amador Mercantile store, a blacksmith shop, a log barn, tractor sheds, a train depot, and a turn of the century barber shop

All buildings are open during the annual Almelund Threshing Show held on the second weekend of August. There are many 19th century steamers, tractors and machinery in operation, including a pioneer sawmill exhibit which cuts raw timber "the old fashioned way"! It's a great weekend outing and history lesson for your kids and family.

While you are there, don't miss the Pioneer Building where artisans host live demonstrations of their crafts and display their folk art. Activities include spinning yarns, weaving fabrics, and glass blowing. All of the volunteers, and the buildings, displays, and artifacts create a nostalgic step back in time.
